So unless he spent like 80 years as a toddler and then started aging at the correct pace, it could be anything. Thats just a part of the mystery, alongside , Zeref knowing natsu, Black Dragon, the real purpose of fairy tail, what makarov actually knows about dragon slayers, what dragon are preparing them for, why their magic sort of guides them to each other, could it be that all magic comes from Zeref, how is lucy's mother connected to all of this including the all-magic-zeref possibility and why did lucy's mother die on the same time as dragons disappeared.

Oh and that's just plots connected to main cast that do not make yet any sense and are left mysterious on purpose.
