Why does selina kyle become catwoman

Ivy explains that ever since Gotham City was cut off from the mainland, the park where she has taken refuge has been changing, and plant life she never knew existed began to grow. Under the oaks, there is an ancient, magical seed that possesses healing properties. However, Ivy as explains it, with this seed, "the darker angels of our nature are unlocked and set free.

Bruce returns with the seed to Selina, who consumes it and then begins to convulse. But later that night, once Selina is stable and should be sleeping, Bruce instead finds her walking again. She insists she has never felt better in her entire life, before her eyes transform into that of a cat, as we saw in Gotham 's Season 5 trailer. In the comic books, Selina is merely a cat burglar with impressive acrobatic and fighting abilities.

The violence she had endured just to survive taught her to fight while simultaneously instilling a fiercely protective streak in her, prompting her to take in and defend fellow battered women.

During her time on the streets, she met a young woman named Holly Robinson who would become one of Selina's chief motivations for her turn to burglary.

To protect and provide for Holly, Selina began crafting her identity as a masked thief, taking what she and Holly needed to keep themselves safe and fed. Through these minor crimes, she came in contact with Batman and was inspired to invent her Catwoman persona. Selina's lack of "official" allegiance often earned her the unwelcome attention of not just the GCPD, but many of Gotham's costumed criminals, who she would regularly steal from or betray. But his trust and the brief, genuine romance shared between them was somewhat short lived.

As Bruce began to unravel the manipulations of Tommy Elliot , he began to question whether or not Selina's feelings for him were genuine, and if he had made the right choice in sharing his secret. Feeling as though there could never be true honest between them, Selina chose to leave Bruce and continue her life of crime and vigilantism on her own. It was revealed that during the year away, Selina had been pregnant and given birth to a daughter who she named Helena, as a metatextual nod to her daughter with Batman on Earth However, when pressure to return to her life as Catwoman began mounting, Selina gave Helena up for adoption.

In an effort to save herself from the grief, she asked Zatanna to modify her memories and remove Helena entirely -- but Zatanna refused. Selina and Batman reconnected upon Selina's volunteering to join his latest incarnation of The Outsiders.

It was somewhat short lived, however, when Tommy Elliot aka Hush returned and gravely wounded Selina before stealing her heart from her body. Mid-Nite and Mr. Several nights later, Catwoman happened on a mugger who attacked and attempted to rape a helpless woman. Making her presence known to them, she brutally beat a mugger , carving his face with her claws. As the would-be victim attempted to thank her, Selina refused and chastised the woman for being unable to defend herself, leaving the scene before authorities arrived.

The next day, Selina returned to Shreck's covered in bandages but sporting a more assertive attitude. Interrupting Max's meeting with Bruce Wayne, she shocked him with her miraculous survival, though feigned amnesia to put him at ease.

Selina also talked with Bruce, instantly developing a mutual attraction with him. As Shreck regained his composure, she followed his orders to show Wayne out, during which they conversed about her role at Shreck's.

During an attack on the city by the Red Triangle Gang, Selina decided to seize the opportunity as cover while she ransacked Shreck's. After breaking in as Catwoman, she began ransacking the store with a newly acquired bullwhip , using it to behead the store's maniquines.

When confronted by the store's guards, Selina scared them away and rigged the shop's ground floor to explode. As she fled before detonation, Catwoman discovered both Batman and the Penguin waiting outside.

When Shreck's exploded, she used the opportunity to flee to the rooftops. Finding that Batman had given chase, Catwoman confronted him, landing several blows. After he landed a blow, she pretended to surrender before relaunching her attack, knocking him off the rooftop and ensnaring him with her whip. Using the oppotunity to taunt him, Catwoman failed to notice Batman grab a blue corrosive chemical capsule from his utility belt and throw it, catching her arm.

Losing her footing, she was rescued by him and pulled to a ledge. Surprised Batman had rescued her, Catwoman became fascinated with him and began to flirt. However, she took to opportunity find weaknesses in his armor , eventually finding one above his utility belt and stabbing him in the abdomen. In response, Batman knocked her off the rooftop, causing her to fall into a truck transporting sand. Having lost "her second life", Catwoman decided to take vengeance upon the Dark Knight as well.

The following day, Catwoman tracked the Penguin to his campaign building. Having deduced he was responsible for the attacks, she waited for him in the second floor, where she proposed an alliance between them to take her revenge on Batman. Learning of Penguin's plans to kill Batman by rigging the Batmobile , Catwoman dismissed the plans, reasoning that Gotham would martyr him after death.

Instead, she suggested they damaged his reputation and framed as a criminal. Brushing off Penguin's sexual advances, she playfully threatened to eat his canary, though let it go when Penguin threatened Miss Kitty with a hidden blade from his umbrella.

Their alliance secured, the two devised a new plan to frame him for kidnapping the Ice Princess and attacking civilians via remote controlling the Batmobile. On the day of the relighting the tree ceremony, Selina encountered Bruce at Gotham Plaza.

Walking and talking together, she accepted an invitation for an early dinner at Wayne Manor. Over dinner, Selina and Bruce discussed his personal life, including his previous girlfriend Vicki Vale.

After he revealed his difficulty with duality, Selina began to recognize a kindred spirit in him, leading her to kiss him passionately. Eventually drawn away due to their attempts to cover up injuries, they noticed a news report informing them of the Ice Princess's kidnapping at Batman's apparent hands. Moments after Bruce excused himself in order to suit up, Selina also decided to leave to carry out their plan.

Leaving instructions with Bruce's bulter Alfred to give an excuse for her abrupt departure, she changed into her costume during her drive into Gotham. Arriving on the scene at the same time as Batman, Catwoman engaged the Dark Knight in combat. Eventually pulling away, she forcibly dragged the Ice Princess to the building's roof. During last week's Gotham season 5 premiere - titled "Year Zero" - Bruce was told that only someone called "The Witch," would have the power to heal Selina's condition.

This week, Bruce came to find out that said person was, in fact, Selina's old friend Ivy Pepper, now long since fully evolved into Poison Ivy. Ivy points Bruce to a mystical seed capable of helping Selina, but warns that with the seed "the darker angels of our nature are unlocked and set free.

She consumes it, at first experiencing a negative reaction, before being seen walking around later. While she insists to Bruce she's never felt better, something has clearly changed in Selina, as her eyes become bright green and cat-like. Longtime Batman comic readers will remember that Catwoman's traditional origin is just that she's an extremely skilled cat burglar, hence the cat motif. Gotham has given Selina a decidedly supernatural origin, one which is likely to remind some of the Tim Burton film Batman Returns, although Gotham's version is at least somewhat more plausible within the context of the show.
