Mr Birtles said the conversion of the Amart stores would generate improved gross margins through "range optimisation", the reduction of underperforming categories, and lower costs in marketing and administration. He said Rebel would need to invest in "competitive prices and promotions". The switch to Rebel would also enable a sharper approach to the omni-channel retailing model, where customers wanted a seamless experience and maximum choice whether they were buying from a physical store or through the Rebel e-commerce site.
The Amart Sports brand will be officially discontinued on November 1, with Rebel stores to be operating by then.
