Should i upgrade psu
Only if it dies. I think I've had one die in the last 15 years. Lagittaja Junior Member. Sep 5, 16 0 Well until it dies of course. I am replacing both of my rigs power supplies on next friday though. Replacing it because of the fan noise it makes and it isn't in the top of the efficiency range either. Getting the fanless w from Seasonic, V2 of course. Getting the semi passive w from Seasonic, V2 of course. Hell no. But it's noisy. I could replace it's fan with a quieter one but I prefer not messing around inside a PSU.
I've had that XFX for couple of years now. Been really nice and solid. At one point when I had K 4. Since the alone pulls w at stock clocks and volts, and I had it running flat out max clocks and volts. And a K probably pulled something like on it's own, didn't have a power meter back then so I really have no idea how much that rig pulled power.
But I wouldn't be surprised if it was pulling w or more. Free electricity LOL. Xtrem Senior member. Nov 15, 0 Has anyone had a PSU die and take other components down as well? May 16, 62 0 0. I only run quality PSU's after I got into it. Only one Enermax has died in a rig, did so without damage to everything else.
Had a couple of older none quality ones that I had replaced for quality units start failing when building a spare rig out of spares. Both had been sitting on a shelf for over a year and showed signs of failing capacitors, that is had to press the power button several times to get them running. I have had one PSU that died and it took some components with it. It was a long time ago, I was something like 7 or 8 yrs old and my dad was building some kind of computer for me.

Then of course there's efficiency, Heat, and age to consider. This is just one of the many reasons to have a single rail PSU. VRM's are not shared nor are heat sinks. They run cooler, will last longer if not near capacity , and have a worry free installation. They have increased efficiency which will lower your overall output loss at higher temperatures. Am I making much sense here? They will research for days all the parts and names on every item and then just grab anything to power it with little thought put in to it.
Actually mine is an R8 AcBel and not M Planning to upgrade the PSU to V series which is cheaper than others but not sure whether should I upgrade now or wait till the PSU stopped working..
And now my addiction in upgrading more is back Anyway - You've done well with this unit to date. It seems you have distributed the load well over those four rails, which is the important thing with multi rail psu's. Don't wait for it to die though. It may take out the cpu, or the whole lot. At this point I wouldn't trust a Chinese psu either, but hey!
When I was a kid, way back in the dim and dark distant past, Japanese stuff was all considered crap. Times change. Heaps of branded stuff is produced in China in those factories where workers commit suicide, so who knows, AcBel may become a world leader in psu's sooner than later?

Are there any signs that it's time to replace one? Topinio Gerbil Jedi. Re: Should I upgrade my power supply? Sun Sep 16, am 2 factors that I'd consider would be i how cheap and nasty or otherwise the existing one is, and ii if you can easily afford to put in a good one. Either way, if you can drop in a e. Seasonic PRIME series with a year warranty and not really feel the financial hit, that's a no-brainer whatever 8-year old model you're currently running on.
